The brief
A new build hallway, staircase and landing two years after moving in. The walls were scuffed on every corner and the trim had opened up at the joints.
What we did
Developer paint had worn through on every corner. We filled and caulked all trim, sanded the walls, then applied a durable matt finish that can be wiped clean.
The colours were chosen from a sample board we painted in the hall, so the owners could see them in their own light. Skirting and door frames got a satin finish that stands up to knocks better than gloss.
The stairs stayed in use throughout. We worked from the top down, kept one side clear and laid a protective runner over the carpet each morning.
The banister was stripped and painted in a deep green that ties the hall to the front door.
We also rehung the front door, which had dropped and caught on the threshold.
The result
The hall now copes with bikes, school bags and a dog, and the owners wipe marks off instead of touching up.
