What we make and fit
Most of our carpentry is fitted work for older houses: alcove wardrobes, under-stair storage, window seats, new internal doors and the skirting and architrave that go around them. We scribe everything to the wall, so there are no gaps filled with caulk.
We also repair. A sticking door, a loose stair tread or a rotten sill is often a half-day job, and we would rather fix it than sell you a new one.
Made in our workshop
Fitted pieces are built in the Mill Lane workshop from birch plywood carcasses with tulipwood or oak face frames. Building off site keeps the noise and dust in our yard rather than your house, and the fitting day is mostly assembly and scribing.
Painted furniture is primed in the workshop and given its final coats in place, so the filler over screw heads disappears under the same finish as the rest.
How a carpentry job runs
Tom or one of our joiners visits, measures and talks through materials. You get a written quote within three working days. Fitted furniture is made in our Mill Lane workshop and installed in one or two visits, with dust sheets down and the room hoovered when we leave.
What affects the price
Size and material matter most, then how far the walls are out of true. A pair of painted alcove wardrobes with shelves and rails usually costs between £1,800 and £2,600. Oak costs more than painted tulipwood, and drawers cost more than shelves. The written quote lists each piece separately, so you can drop one and see the new total.

Can I buy my own wardrobe doors or handles?
Yes. Tell us before we build so we can size the doors and drill for your handles. We are happy to fit fittings you have chosen.
Do you build stairs?
We repair and replace treads, spindles and handrails, and build new staircases for loft conversions. A full new staircase is quoted after a site visit.
