Terms of work
The terms that apply when you book a job with Fernhollow Building Co. Last updated 1 October 2026.
Quotes
Every quote is written, fixed and valid for 30 days. It lists the work, the materials, the schedule and the payment stages. The price only changes if you change the job or we find something that could not be seen at the visit, and we agree any change with you in writing first.
Deposits and payment
For jobs over £1,000 we ask for a deposit of 20 percent when you book. The rest is paid in the stages written into the quote. Small jobs are paid on completion. Invoices are due within 14 days.
Changes and extra work
If you want to add or change something during the job, we write down the change and its price before we start on it. Nothing extra goes on the invoice that you have not agreed.
Access and the site
Please give us access to the rooms we are working in and somewhere to park or unload. We protect floors and furniture, clean up at the end of each day and take our waste with us.
Guarantee
We guarantee our workmanship for 5 years from completion. If something we fitted fails because of how we fitted it, we come back and fix it at no cost. Materials carry the maker’s own warranty, which we pass on to you.
Cancelling
You can cancel within 14 days of accepting a quote and get your deposit back in full, unless we have already ordered made to measure materials at your request. After that, we refund the deposit minus the cost of any materials already bought.
Complaints
If you are not happy with any part of the work, call or write to us. Tom or Ruth will reply within two working days and arrange a visit if needed.
