Repair first
Many timber sash windows only need new cords, beads and draught brushes to run smoothly and stop rattling. We check every window before recommending replacement.
Draught proofing
Brush seals fitted into the beads stop most draughts without changing how the window looks. In a typical Victorian front room this makes a clear difference to comfort on a windy night.
Replacement
When a frame is past saving we measure, order and fit timber or uPVC units, make good the plaster and paint the reveals. External doors come with new locks fitted to insurance standard.
Internal doors
We hang new doors in existing openings, and plane and rehang old panel doors that have dropped. Handles, hinges and latches are fitted to suit both the door and the frame.
Conservation areas
Several streets in Hollins Vale and the centre of Marrow Hill sit in conservation areas, where replacement windows may need consent. We tell you at the first visit whether your street is affected and what the council usually accepts.
What affects the price
Repairs are priced per window, replacements by size and material. Timber costs more than uPVC, but it suits older houses and lasts for decades when it is kept painted.

Is it worth repairing old sash windows?
Usually, yes. Most original sashes only need new cords, beads and draught seals. We check each window and tell you honestly when replacement makes more sense.
